The House

loving God, loving each other, loving the world

We are a church...

The House is a Christian faith community in Northeast Seattle.

We are nudging one another toward God, toward each other, toward the world...

We all have a life story.  No matter what your story is, it is part of the bigger story of a loving God who meets us in the midst of our lives.  A God who is with us as we are, a God who will bring forth new meaning and hope to our lives.  God's love reveals itself as we share our life stories with one another.  It is our hope that as we find our home in this bigger story, we live it out in our neighborhoods, our community associations, and our work.  It is our hope that we share our home in community with God's love.  The gospel of Jesus Christ is a story to be lived out every moment of every day.

About our name...

We love God...

To love God is to allow ourselves to be loved by God.  It is a turning away from our need to control and a turning our lives over to God.  In this place, we encounter the presence of Jesus who loves us and knows us as we are.  It is this love that draws us together in worship.  Throughout time God's people have gathered together to encourage one another and celebrate this extravagent love and blessing in their lives.

Come worship in community with us, the living and loving God.

We love each other...

We love each other by living into these classic words from Henry Nouwen...

"Hospitality is not to change people but to offer them space where change can take place. It is not to bring men and women over to our side, but to offer them freedom undisturbed by dividing lines. The paradox of hospitality is that it wants to create emptiness, not a fearful emptiness, but a friendly emptiness where strangers can enter and discover themselves as created free; free to sing their own songs, speak their own languages, dance their own dances, free also to leave and follow their own vocations. Hospitality is not a subtle invitation to adopt the lifestyle of the host, but the gift of a chance for the guests to find their own."

- Henri Nouwen

We love the world...

As God sent Jesus, so Jesus sends us to be his hands and to represent his heart of passion for the world.  We are empowered on this journey by the Holy Spirit who comforts us and gives us hope for a new day.  A day when each hungry child is fed.  A day when justice and compassion rule.  A day when a spark of light brings forth hope in the darkest of all nights.  A day when all things are restored and made new.  A day when there will be complete shalom with God, with each other other and with the world.
